The Cathedral Neighbourhood Texture Hunt is a free, all-ages community art project that blends exploration and art-making. Hosted by Sacred Circle Healing Arts Studio + The Artesian in series of hands-on workshops, participants will create small texture prints using simple materials, contributing to a collective exhibition during the Cathedral Village Arts Festival.

Whether you’re an artist, community member, curious wanderer, or simply looking for something different to do, this is an opportunity to slow down and notice the details we usually overlook.

  • Open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult).
  • All materials are provided.

What is texture hunting?

Texture hunting is the process of noticing and collecting surface patterns from the world around you.

Using materials like an ink pad, Play-Doh, and paper, participants gently press into surfaces such as sidewalks, walls, tree bark, or everyday objects to capture their textures as prints.

The process is non-invasive, meaning nothing is removed, altered, or damaged.

It’s part art-making, part observation practice, and often it changes how you see your surroundings.

How it works:

Participants are invited to attend one of two free workshops.

During the workshop:

  • You’ll explore the neighbourhood and hunt for different textures
  • You’ll create multiple texture imprints
  • From your collection, you’ll select one 4x6 piece to submit to the community art show

Each participant may submit one piece, and you choose which of your created works will be included in the exhibition.

All selected works will be displayed as part of a group exhibition at The Artesian, alongside a list of contributing artists and short explanation of the process behind the work.
