About the musicians:

Montreal-based guitarist and composer Sam Kirmayer has been hailed as a “rising star of Canadian jazz guitar” (ICI Musique). One of CBC Music’s picks for the “35 Best Canadian Jazz Musicians Under 35”, his playing has been described as “no pretense or posturing, only musical sincerity” (Jazz Guitar Life) and “never overstated and always expressed with good taste” (All About Jazz). Sam’s sophomore album, High And Low (Cellar Live, 2018), features first call Montreal drummer Dave Laing and New York City-based organist Ben Paterson, who Downbeat has described as “as soulful a pianist/organist as exists anywhere.” The trio will be appearing at the Artesian as part of their cross-Canada tour.
