About the artist:

Shannon Yashcheshen is an art and design instructor, graphic/web designer, photographer and professional artist. She is an active member of the arts community for the past 15 years, displaying and exhibiting art in various galleries. She has been nominated for and won several art and design awards.

She has completed her Graphic Art Production, New Media Communications and the Applied Photography extension programs at the SIAST Wascana Camps in Regina SK. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Regina with a double major in painting and printmaking and a Bachelor of Art Degree in Art History from the University of Regina. She completed these programs with distinction while working as a full-time designer.

In 2013, she completed her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Manitoba, with honours. She focused on interdisciplinary visual art and visual communications, focusing on painting, graphic design, web design, social media, digital print technology and portraiture.

Her current work at the Artesian is figurative and heavily influenced by photography, new media and digital technology, such as computers, the internet, cell phone photography, print technology and social media. It also pays close attention to the ways in which we communicate online today, celebrity and popular culture, and art historical and contemporary definitions of portraiture. Many of these influences stem directly from my personal background in fine arts, commercial photography, social media, graphic design, and new media, which are areas that I have direct experience working in, have studied comprehensively.

Her artwork is displayed at the Artesian from August 3- August 31 2018.
