Life is a Cabaret

Life Is a Cabaret

Presented by Regina Lyric Musical Theatre

The dizzying heights of the 1920s eventually gave way to the Great Depression of the 1930s, and while lives were swept along through these ups and downs, the bands played on.  Jazz music was born and raised during these tumultuous times, and the songwriters of Tin Pan Alley penned hits that continue to resonate with audiences today.  Broadway was getting ready to enter its golden age, and everywhere from American speakeasies to the Kabarett of Weimar Germany, the cabaret, that lively blend of song, dance, and drama, entranced people the world over.  The period and its music has remained a point of fascination and inspiration nearly a century later.  Life Is a Cabaret showcases a broad sample of music from, about, and inspired by this period: 1920-1939, and with it, tells its story.  An ensemble of live musicians accompany a cast of talented women as they take to the intimate stage of the Artesian to transport the audience to a time when, as the song says, life was indeed a cabaret.

The show will include music from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Kurt Weill, and from shows as diverse as Guys & Dolls, Cabaret, and Chicago, with plenty of laughs and surprises in between.

Regina Lyric Musical Theatre is a non-profit community theatre company that has been giving Saskatchewan performers opportunities for over 40 years.
