The Music & Dance Project: The Remembrance Solos
The Music & Dance Project (MaDP) strives to build interdisciplinary relationships between professional and student performers by providing unique performance opportunities to dancers and musicians from a variety of skill levels. This project was initiated between Karen Rose, dancer and choreographer, and the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts.
In this first project presentation, "The Remembrance Solos," Rose offers four dance solos accompanied by student musicians from the MAP: Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance - University of Regina and University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts. This live accompaniment format provides an opportunity for the dancers and musicians to be in conversation during the performance. The solos are part of Rose's ongoing exploration of women in war and represent universal themes of grief and loss, perseverance, defiance, and the hope, strength, and resilience of the human spirit. The performance includes an “Into the Work…” component where the choreographer, dancers, and musicians will get to share their experience working together with the audience.
DANCERS: Michelle Korpan, Carleigh MacDonald (pictured above), Paula Skotnitsky, and Larissa Shasko.
MUSICIANS: Keri Panchuk (piano), Kathleen Houston (flute), Trevor Flemings (piano), and Dominic Ghiglione (trombone).
